Nestled in the heart of historic Downtown Chambersburg, the Shook Home offers Skilled Nursing Care in a relaxed atmosphere located near retailers, eateries, physicians’ offices and medical centers. Whether its reading on the sun porch, observing the aquariums in the lounges, or surfing the internet in the Activities Room, there are plenty of spaces in which residents can feel at home. Nowhere is this homelike atmosphere more evident than in our intimate accommodations. Residents may choose from partially furnished private and semi-private rooms on one of two floors. With only 65 beds, the Shook Home is analogous to the small, close-knit communities of our youth. Each bed is dually licensed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicare and Medicaid eligible residents; thereby, increasing accessibility to care for those that need it the most. Meals are served in recently renovated dining rooms complete with steam tables and “restaurant style” point-of-service. Finally, after visiting our in-house Beauty Salon & Barber Shop, residents can be treated to whirlpool baths in one of the state-of-the-art Spa Rooms.
Whether afflicted by a chronic, progressive condition or suffering from an acute illness or traumatic injury, the Shook Home provides the professional medical services to meet almost everyone’s needs. Long-term placement is an option for those who can no longer be cared for in the community while short-term placement is available to prepare residents to return home following a hospital stay or simply to give in-home caregivers a break. Hospice care is also available to care for residents with terminal illnesses. Regardless of the type of stay needed, residents may take advantage of a variety of services to enable them to achieve their highest practicable level of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
The Shook Home takes a holistic, person-in-environment approach to resident care. As a result, residents’ receive comprehensive, individualized plans of care developed by our Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) in conjunction with them and their families. The IDT consists of a physician, a Registered Nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse, a Physical Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech Therapist, a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist, a Registered Dietitian, a Social Worker, and a Chaplain. Off-site specialists, optometrists, dentists, and psychiatrists are consulted as needed. Transportation to and from medical appointments is provided free of charge within a ten mile radius of the facility.
The plan of care developed by the IDT is carried out on a day-to-day basis by a team of caring professionals. At the core of this team is our nursing staff. Comprised of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nurse Aides, our nursing staff offers an exceptional combination of skill and genuine compassion. With a staffing level above what the Department of Health requires, The Shook Home provides peace of mind to residents and their families alike.
